Honey export into the EU
Can my Country export honey to the EU?
The EU Commission has set up plans to monitor certain substances and residues in animal products. Third countries which wish to export into the European Union have to provide the EU Commission with the necessary guarantees with regard to the monitoring of residues and contaminants, as laid down in Regulation (EU) 2017/625.
Apart from the monitoring in the third country the product has to fulfil all EU foodstuff laws and must meet the requirements as laid down in EU Directive 2001/110/EC relative to honey.
The list of all third countries authorised for the import of honey into the EU can be found in Regulation (EU) 2021/405. The list is constantly maintained and updated. The latest change was made on 19th of January 2024 by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/334.
Since November 2023, Regulation (EU) 2023/2652 is in force which amends Regulation (EU) 2022/2292 on import requirements for honey and other apiculture products. This Regulation lays down the requirement for listing all establishments from third countries which want to import to the EU.
